Newport High School, Newport OR
Class of 1963
First, a huge THANK YOU to John Owen, who planned & carried out the details for our 61st class reunion that was held on Aug. 10! Thank you for all the work & time you put into this, for us.

Now, here is the next project that John is tackling. He is looking ahead to our 62nd REUNION! Yup, as in NEXT YEAR, SUMMER OF 2025:
Dear Friends:
I am looking for ideas for our next reunion. I was hoping to have the next one at Boston's place. Charley has too many family issues going on right now. So, I need more input.
We can always do a repeat of the 61st. However, we ran out of room at breakfast. The Embarcadero has more room, but I don't know if they do breakfast. Karen and I had dinner there on Friday evening before the reunion. Best dinner I have ever had in a restaurant. However, it was expensive. Maybe lunch is a better idea.
Do we need to go to the Port building? We had a better turnout at the breakfast.
We like a good picnic, but not everyone likes picnics.
I realize that I am not everyone's cup of tea. Maybe a different host that is a good speaker, such as Tillinghast or Maki, and there are many others that would do a great job.
I will miss Sue Oliver as she was at many of our breakfasts. Karen had a large garden when we lived in the Albany/Jefferson area and Sue loved to raid our garden. Karen always sent her home with bags of vegetables.
I did not know Sharon Tillinghast well, but I will always remember her giving me a big hug at Strands house after I disclosed a health issue that kept me out of the service. She was a wonderful person.
Karen and I are going through an adjustment time in our life as we just found out that Karen has Parkinson's Disease Stage 2. She has a great attitude about it and is rigorously exercising every day and she is on meds for the disease.
Looking forward to seeing my friends again.

The 61st reunion was good. Around 24 class members attended, plus spouses and several guests from other NHS classes. Weather was good, food was too. But the visiting was even better.
Today I received a batch of reunion pictures from Vicki LeMaster Courtright and another batch from John Owen. It will take some time to go through them, weed out any near-duplicates, crop them, etc., and then post them on the website. Will get to it as soon as time permits! Thank you for your patience! PPH
To those who were unable to attend: We missed you! We are hoping that there will be a 62nd reunion next summer.

We started having monthly class breakfasts 22 years ago, in February 2002! That was when a small group gathered in Salem area to begin working on trying to locate all the class members, prior to our 40th reunion that was scheduled for the following year! During the first 19 years, we only missed 3 times--once when we scheduled the breakfast in central Oregon & no one showed up, and two other times when we cancelled the event due to severe weather limitations! Then, in March 2020, Covid-19 shut us down for two long years, until March 2022.
Monthly Breakfasts resumed in April, 2022, but going forward they will be quarterly instead of monthly.

Did you know? Our site has now been viewed more than 90,000 times!
This site has had 100,828 total visits since we started it in November 2013!
To make it easier for planning our calendars:
The idea is to make the breakfast sites reachable for as many classmates as possible!
Do YOU have other ideas? Other locations where you would like to meet for breakfast? In the past we have tried the Eugene area a few times, but the turnout there was usually low. We have never met in Corvallis, so that is another possibility. Would really like to hear your ideas!
Please contact us at newportcubs63@yahoo.com and let us hear your ideas!
