MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

61st Class of 1963 Reunion will be on August 10, 2024 in Newport OR!

This is the letter sent by John Owen last month to everyone on the email list.  Just posting it here in case someone inadvertently was missed & did not receive the letter:

I (John Owen) was asked many years ago to put together a yearly class reunion, aside from the main one held every five years.  I put one together for our 56th at Spirit Mountain, which was well attended and was looking forward to our 57th when the pandemic intervened. Beth, Ruth, and Frank put on a wonderful 60th class reunion; however, I was asked once again to put on another yearly one.  So, here goes.

I want to thank everyone for responding to my previous letter a couple of months ago.  The response has been positive from several classmates.  The most important part of figuring this out was the date.  It was agreed that Saturday August 10, would work out for most people.  Dennis Strand and Ed Tillinghast have prior commitments elsewhere and we will miss them.

We will continue to have breakfast at Newport Steak and Seafood at 9:30 AM Saturday.  The April quarterly breakfast had a great turnout and Patty said that 14 people showed up.  We will be seated in the lounge, but may eat in the dining area.  The restaurant has requested an RSVP for breakfast.  My contact information is below for the RSVP.

Frank has secured the Port building, same as last year, until 5:00 PM on Saturday.  Probably noon til 5, or until everyone is gone.  This is more of a social gathering than anything, however, there will be a pot luck for those that are interested.  Cold beverages will be available, no alcohol.  I will do my best to provide tables and chairs as many of us prefer not to stand for long periods of time.

Most of us have friends in other classes that have attended our breakfasts.  Family members are always welcome.  It is a good possibility that we will see NHS graduates from other classes attend breakfast and/or the Port.

I would like to do another short meeting and give Patty, Jeanene and Claudine a chance to bring us up to date on their respective areas of expertise.  I will have an announcement at the end of the meeting.

John Owen, 541-403-2503 or text or email owenjohn93@gmail.com or FB

More information & details will be forthcoming as soon as they are available! Meanwhile, please mark your calendars for this upcoming event.

ALSO...

The next quarterly breakfast would normally be scheduled in the Salem area in the month of July (one month ahead of the 61st reunion.)  However, someone suggested that we may wish to skip the July breakfast because we plan to be together in August for the 61st.

If you have thoughts about this, please contact us by using the "contact us" tab above.  If we do not hear from some who say "Yes, we do want to still have the July breakfast in Salem," it will be cancelled!

(Or, if some would rather still have the July breakfast, but at a location other than Salem, we want to hear that too!)

Thank you!

We started having monthly class breakfasts 22 years ago, in February 2002!  That was when a small group gathered in Salem area to begin working on trying to locate all the class members, prior to our 40th reunion that was scheduled for the following year!  During the first 19 years, we only missed 3 times--once when we scheduled the breakfast in central Oregon & no one showed up, and two other times when we cancelled the event due to severe weather limitations!   Then, in March 2020, Covid-19 shut us down for two long years, until March 2022.

Monthly Breakfasts resumed in April, 2022, but going forward they will probably be quarterly instead of monthly.

Did you know?  Our site has now been viewed more than 90,000 times!

This site has had 97,890 total  visits since we started it in November 2013!

To make it easier for planning our calendars:

The idea is to make the breakfast sites reachable for as many classmates as possible!

Do YOU have other ideas?  Other locations where you would like to meet for breakfast?  In the past we have tried the Eugene area a few times, but the turnout there was usually low.  We have never met in Corvallis, so that is another possibility.    Would really like to hear your ideas!

Please contact us at newportcubs63@yahoo.com and let us hear your ideas!
